Phosphorus oxybromide (CAS 7789-59-5) is a critical inorganic reagent used primarily for introducing bromine into organic molecules. The compound features the molecular formula PBrO and is synthesized via the reaction of phosphorus pentoxide with hydrobromic acid.
Strictly store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from moisture and oxidizers. Use full PPE due to severe corrosivity; it reacts violently with water releasing toxic hydrogen bromide gas. Not for clinical use.
