Thiacetazone (CAS 51-14-9, Formula C15H18N2O2S2) is a synthetic antitubercular agent. Historically synthesized via condensation of thiocarbohydrazide and 4-acetylphenol, it functions by inhibiting mycolic acid synthesis in Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
Strictly contraindicated for monotherapy due to high resistance risk. Severe cutaneous adverse reactions (SCARs) including Stevens-Johnson syndrome require immediate discontinuation. Store in cool, dry conditions away from light.
